Gratitude is a term that gets thrown around a lot and you hear how powerful this state can be for others, but it is only a word after all, right? Words only gain power once you give it. The truth behind the word gratitude is more about the emotion we attach to it. That is its true power, otherwise it is just simply a word we get told to embrace.
According to the English dictionary gratitude is – ‘the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness’. This statement I can agree with in part because gratitude itself as an energy has many aspects to it. In my understanding gratitude is about self-love, self-acceptance and appreciation for the life you’re creating. It’s the little things in life that create the bigger impacts to how we feel about ourselves.
Growing up in the upside-down inverted world has had lasting impacts on our consciousness and how we feel about ourselves. We gain negative and limiting beliefs about ourselves from our parents, family, friends, environment and society because they too have been faced with the same. I don’t say this to blame them but more to show how these patterns of trauma cycles have continued for generations to the point that the prospective threats feel more real than they once were experienced.
We are all doing our best with the understanding we have at the time, and we are forever changing, growing, learning and expanding. So much so that many of us, including you reading this right now have stepped into your power and had the courage to say, ‘no more’. That alone deserves a massive sense of gratitude towards yourself because having the courage to look at yourself, taking responsibility and owning it, is massive. Just by you stepping into this energy has helped raise the collective consciousness level. This will continue on the more we all expand, grow, heal, learn and shine. You can see this in your everyday life at how much light (information) is being presented to the collective. So many things have come to light where it makes you question, ‘was it always like this?’. The answer is ‘YES’. We just couldn’t see the truth through our fog of trauma. But the fog is clearing and self-love, gratitude and appreciation for self is at the core of our expansion.
Life is about balance, and this is a beautiful lesson we are all learning because there will be ups and downs. It’s about how you react to the situation, that shows your growth. Healing is a process the same as self-love which will take a lifetime to achieve, it’s not like we can say ‘oh I’ve figured this golden nugget out, I’m done’. Firstly, how boring that would be. We will continue at our own pace as we need. Everything is working out in our favour and for our benefit, I promise you that. However, sometimes our minds need a little bit more convincing, which is why practicing gratitude and all that this emotional energy encompasses will help you to calm your mind and give you a higher perspective of any situation. Remember you manifest who you are. So, being empathetic to this is key to understanding your situation and most importantly you.
The following are just a few practical tips you can do when your mind just won’t let up and you’re feeling low:
Being honest with yourself: Sometimes when we are in the thick of feeling overwhelmed, sad and full of grief, trying to have gratitude for your situation and yourself might seem unthinkable. So, the first thing is to be honest with yourself. Is this situation as bad as your mind is making out? Are there thoughts and/or feelings of fear and doubt. If so, is there a threat? Is it fact? Allow yourself the space to step back for a moment and be honest with yourself. This is apart of you allowing yourself to be valued and heard.
Feel and embody this emotion: Allowing yourself to really feel the emotion in its entirety in your body is a powerful tool. This allows you to express this emotion deeply and any other feeling you have around this. Allow yourself to express it how ever you feel is right for you. Whether that is crying, laughing, going for a walk, shouting at the roof tops and just screaming at the top of your lungs. Your feelings are valid, and you deserve to allow yourself to feel this. Our bodies are fantastic and well equip to deal with everything you need in your day-to-day life. Allowing yourself to be present with these emotions and then permitting them to release from the body is a gift to yourself. You will feel lighter after, trust me.
Be present: It sounds so simple doesn’t it, but it is. Life is simple when your connected with your heart. It is our minds that complicate things for a variety of reasons. Our masculine essence main purpose is to be in the physical presence. To do this allow yourself to focus on something in front of you and just observe it. Animals and nature are a great way of helping us do this because they are always showing us how to be in the moment. Remember the mind doesn’t need to know everything and that this is ok. There's not always a quick fix to a situation which our minds tend to like. Some things just take time, and it is ok to not worry about tomorrow and just be today. Focus on something you love and enjoy to keep you in the present moment.
The next few tips are for getting you in the energy of gratitude. Its about the feeling within you that you want to aim for and not just telling your mind your grateful. You have to really feel it.
Gratitude Journal: Begin by writing down things you're grateful for. It could be as simple and board as a beautiful sunset, the beach, a kind gesture from a friend, or a delicious meal, the smaller the better to start with. The reason why I say smaller is because it really is the little things that bring in the magic of life. Then add things about you personally such as the amazing abilities you have, who you are, your body etc. This really helps you to focus on you. You are phenomenal and you’re here for a reason. Your unique, there will never be another like you. Aim to have a few examples and allow yourself to feel into this. Write how your grateful for them and what you like about you. Journaling your thoughts and feelings is a great way of bringing your masculine and feminine energies together.
Express Gratitude Verbally to yourself: We tend to be our hardest critique sometimes and this has to stop. You deserve all this reality has to offer. Taking the time to talk to yourself in a nice way, is another way of bringing your masculine and feminine energies together. Allow what comes to mind come and feel it. Don’t analysis it, just let it be. You can also take the time to express gratitude to the people in your life who you love. Make some effort with them and yourself by making that phone call, or simply say "thank you" in person and to yourself in the mirror. Letting others and yourself know that you appreciate them and yourself, strengthens your relationships with them and yourself and also reinforces your own sense of gratitude.
Practice Mindfulness: Same as the tips above about being present and taking the time to be fully present in the moment and pay attention to the little joys around you. Nature has an excellent way of calming our energies down and also shows us how to be in the moment. Notice the sights, sounds, and sensations of everyday life, and take a moment to appreciate them because it is your reality creation after all. Mindfulness can help you develop a deeper sense of gratitude for the present moment.
Reflect on Challenges and Growth: Shift your perspective on challenges by viewing them as opportunities for growth and learning because this never ends. We’re here to learn, grow and expand our consciousness through the human experience. Reflect on past struggles and hardships and identify the lessons they've taught you, but your past doesn’t need to define your present reality, you can stop creating old programme patterns in your reality by becoming more aware of them and the impact on you they have. Recognize the strength and resilience you've gained from overcoming obstacles and be grateful for the growth that has resulted. Remember you’re here for a reason and its time for you to step into your own unique truth. There is no higher frequency energy then you just being truly you.
Be grateful for your reality and your creation: Everything in your reality is your creation. Showing gratitude for things like your home and doing things such as sorting out your cupboards, clothes and cleaning etc. Is a great way to appreciate your creation. I tell my washing machine how much I appreciate it every time I use it and I’m so grateful for my power shower because I grew up without one. I also spent hours just marvelling at the wonders of my hands and how amazing they are and what they can do. It really gave me a buzz for life because were here to live, not survive. We have been in fight or flight mode for far too long as a collective and it’s time to live, I mean really live. You deserve to create the reality you’ve always wanted but you must be in that feeling of gratitude for where you’re at. Remember your already abundant and you manifest what you are. Don’t get stuck in the lack energy or focusing on things in your life you don’t have but want because receiving it is not going to make you feel any different or change your life in the long run. So don’t wait! Step into your power and look at the amazing life you’ve created for yourself because everything is happening for your benefit.
Being aware of the above tips can aid you in a deeper sense of gratitude and appreciation for yourself. Of course, take what resonates with you. Regularly acknowledging and expressing gratitude can lead to greater happiness, fulfilment, and overall well-being.
